Help & Information
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about our UPVC window and door repair service across Birmingham and the Black Country.
General
What areas do you cover?
We cover Birmingham, Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Solihull, and all surrounding Black Country areas. This includes towns and suburbs such as Stourbridge, Halesowen, Smethwick, Oldbury, Tipton, Sutton Coldfield, Erdington, and many more. If you're unsure whether we cover your postcode, give us a call.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. We do not charge a call-out fee. You only pay for the work completed and the parts used. We provide a free, no-obligation quote before any work begins.
How quickly can you respond?
We offer same-day appointments across most of our service area. For emergency callouts — such as a door that won't lock or a broken window — we aim to respond as quickly as possible. Call us early in the day for the best same-day availability.
Are your engineers insured?
Yes. All our engineers are fully insured with comprehensive public liability insurance. They are also DBS checked for your peace of mind.
Do you provide a guarantee on your repairs?
Yes. We stand behind our work. All our repairs are guaranteed, and we use quality parts to ensure longevity. If a repair fails within the guarantee period, we will return to rectify it at no additional charge.
Window Repairs
My UPVC window is difficult to open. What could cause this?
The most common causes are worn or seized hinges, a failed friction stay, a broken window mechanism (espagnolette), or the window frame has moved slightly causing it to bind. In most cases, the fault can be diagnosed and fixed on the first visit.
My window won't lock. Is this a security risk?
Yes — a window that won't lock is a security risk and should be addressed promptly. The most common causes are a broken mechanism, a snapped locking point, or a handle that's no longer engaging the lock. Call us for an urgent repair.
Can you fix misted double glazing without replacing the whole window?
Yes. In most cases, only the sealed unit (the double-glazed glass panel) needs replacing — not the entire window frame. We measure, supply, and fit replacement sealed units to most standard sizes, using A-rated glass as standard.
How long does a typical window repair take?
Most window repairs take between 30 minutes and 2 hours. We carry a wide range of parts in our vehicles, so the majority of repairs are completed on the first visit without needing to order parts.
Door Repairs
My UPVC door has dropped and won't close properly. Can this be fixed?
Yes. A dropped door is one of the most common UPVC repairs we carry out. In most cases, the fix is a hinge adjustment using an Allen key, which takes 30 to 60 minutes. If the hinges are worn or damaged, we can replace them on the same visit.
My front door handle has broken. How quickly can you fix it?
A broken door handle is a same-day repair in most cases. We carry a wide range of handles and furniture for all common UPVC and composite door types. Call us and we can usually visit the same day.
The key turns in my lock but the door won't open. What's wrong?
This usually indicates a failed multipoint gearbox. The gearbox is the mechanism that converts handle and key movement into the engagement and disengagement of locking bolts. A gearbox replacement is a standard repair we carry out regularly.
Do you repair composite doors as well as UPVC?
Yes. Composite doors use the same multipoint locking hardware, hinges, and seals as UPVC doors, so virtually all the same repairs apply. We service and repair composite doors of all makes across the West Midlands.
My door is draughty even when closed. What's the cause?
The most common causes are perished rubber seals and gaskets, a dropped door that isn't pressing the seals tight against the frame, or failed locking points that aren't fully engaging. We can diagnose and fix draught issues quickly.
Costs & Quotes
How much does a UPVC repair typically cost?
Costs vary depending on the fault and the parts required. A euro cylinder replacement might cost from £60 to £100; a gearbox replacement from £100 to £200; a sealed unit replacement from £80 upwards. We always provide a free, no-obligation quote before starting any work.
How do I get a quote?
Call us on 07525 822959 or use the contact form on our website. We'll take some details about the fault and arrange a visit at a time that suits you. The quote is always free and there's no obligation to proceed.
Is repair always cheaper than replacement?
In the vast majority of cases, yes. UPVC window and door frames last 25 to 35 years when well maintained. Most faults are in the hardware (handles, mechanisms, hinges, cylinders) or the sealed glass units — all of which can be repaired or replaced at a fraction of full window or door replacement cost.
